Housing 21 and West Berkshire Council officially 'Topped Out' the new Alice Bye Court development in Thatcham on Tuesday.  The new extra care scheme will provide  51 one and two bedroom apartments for rent and shared ownership when it opens in June this year. It has been specifically designed to meet the needs of residents aged over fifty five. The scheme will provide accommodation alongside on-site care and support services, as well as a range of resources which will be available for community use including a hair salon and restaurant.

Joe Mooney, West Berkshire's Executive Councillor for Community Care said: "Topping out is an exciting phase as completion is just around the corner. I am delighted that people will soon be able to enjoy this excellent accommodation which is perfectly designed for independent living."

The new facility was commissioned by the council in partnership with Housing 21 and the scheme has also benefitted from funding from the Homes and Communities Agency.

Sara Naylor-Wild, locality manager for Housing 21 said: "We're delighted to reach this landmark stage in the development of Alice Bye Court and it's wonderful to see how well the building is progressing. I'm sure that when the scheme is complete, the residents will be very pleased with their new home and the on-site facilities."
