This morning a cat walk on water took place in advance of London Fashion week (14th– 18thSeptember).

Hovertravel, the fastest way to cross theSolent, teamed up with Eco-Fashion brand Rapanui, to bring their passengers the first ever cat walk fashion show on a hovercraft.

Staff at Hovertravel wore the eco-friendly clothing brand and showcased the new season collection by walking down the aisles of the hovercraft as it crossed the Solent between Ryde, Isle of Wight and Southsea, Portsmouth. The staff - turned cat walk models chose  the T-shirts and tops to  wear; from bamboo to eucalyptus to organic cotton.

Loretta Lale, commercial and marketing manager of Hovertravel, explains: “Rapanui is a great eco-friendly clothing brand based on theIsle of Wight. We are always keen to support local businesses from the Island, especially ones that aim to make a genuine contribution to sustainability as that is something that here at Hovertravel we aim to do ourselves. Our craft have much less impact on the ocean than conventional boats, as the hovering ability reduces the wake. We also cross the Solent quicker than other ferries, so we use much less fuel.

The fashion show was staged  between 0800 and 0900, giving passengers the chance to see the latest trends in casual wear all made from sustainable materials, bringing the fashion cat walk onto the hovercraft for the first time.

Rob Drake-Knight, co-founder of Rapanui said: “We are really excited to be able to show our 2012 collection to the Hovertravel passengers; giving them a taste of the catwalk in their seats as they travel across the Solent. Hovertravel share our views on sustainability and respecting the marine environment so working together was a bit of a no-brainer!”
