Hovertravel, the fastest way across the Solent, has launched a charity initiative as part of their Sea  Care campaign

Hovertravel is giving customers the opportunity to send a donation to the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) when purchasing tickets online. The optional 30p online donation has been added to the Hovertravel website (www.hovertravel.com ), to take advantage of the forthcoming August bank holiday weekend.

Loretta Lale, commercial and marketing manager of Hovertravel, explains: “We timed the launch of this initiative to encourage customers to have a fun and environmentally responsible bank holiday weekend. Here at Hovertravel, we work with the sea every day and have a healthy respect for this environment. Our craft have much less impact on the ocean than conventional boats, as the hovering ability reduces the wake. We also cross the Solent quicker than other ferries, so we use much less fuel.”

Katharine Sharp, MCS Corporate Fundraiser, says MCS is delighted to be working with Hovertravel who already have an excellent history of supporting marine conservation. “This is a great opportunity for MCS to raise its profile along the south coast. The Isle of Wight itself has some amazing marine life and the partnership will help engage Hovertravel staff and customers with our work via information in the terminals and at the point of ticket booking.”

With several family fun events happening across the bank holiday weekend, such as the Ryde Scooter Rally and Cowes Carnival Procession on the Isle of Wight and the Portsmouth International Kite festival taking place at Southsea, customers can have a fun weekend and take part in this charity campaign. All you have to do is book your tickets online at www.hovertravel.com .

Loretta continues: “The August bank holiday is always busy at Hovertravel, with so many events happening on both sides of the Solent, so we recommend booking your tickets in advance online.  By doing this, our customers can help us raise funds to help the environment while having a great weekend.  MCS is a hugely respected charity that helps protect marine wildlife, promotes sustainable fisheries and cleaner seas and beaches.”
