Huhtamaki sells Turkish consumer flexibles operation
Huhtamaki sells Turkish consumer flexibles operation Huhtamaki, the Finnish consumer packaging specialist with worldwide operations, has agreed to sell its Turkish consumer flexibles unit, SAF Plastics, to an international investment consortium. This transaction concludes Huhtamaki's program of divesting non-core businesses. Based in Izmir, SAF currently employs approx. 250 people in the manufacture of printed packaging films and laminates, mainly for the non- food industry. Its annual sales amount to approx. EUR 22 million. The operation was part of Huhtamaki's 1999 acquisition of the Dutch packaging company Van Leer. SAF has not met Huhtamaki's criteria for market position, growth potential or financial results; however, its performance has improved in recent months.
