Huntington Medical Foundation has been named the “Best Medical Group” in the San Gabriel Valley in a poll of readers conducted by the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the Pasadena Star-News and the Whittier Daily News.

“We are thrilled to be the first medical group honored in the new Reader’s Choice Awards and are thankful to our patients for their loyalty and support,” said Wendy Karsten,  chief executive officer. “Our goal has always been to provide the highest quality, most patient-friendly healthcare through innovative programs and excellent people. This award reaffirms our commitment in these areas.”

Founded in 1994, Huntington Medical Foundation’s 70 physicians and supporting clinical staff serve area adults and children at eight offices throughout Pasadena, La Cañada, San Marino and Arcadia. Its physicians are affiliated with the area’s two most highly respected medical facilities, Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena and Methodist Hospital in Arcadia. The group also has contracts with most of the largest and best-known health plans in the area.

In addition to primary care doctors (family practice, internal medicine and pediatrics), the medical foundation includes specialists in a variety of areas including acupuncture, addiction medicine, allergy, dermatology, endocrinology, nutrition/weight management, pediatric neurology and podiatry. All of its physicians have had years of experience in patient centered medical care, and all are either board certified or board eligible.

The medical foundation also provides the clinical staff for Pasadena Community Urgent Care. Opened in late 2010 and located at 3160 East Del Mar in Pasadena, the urgent care center is a unique collaboration among the medical foundation, the city of Pasadena, Huntington Memorial Hospital and Community Health Alliance of Pasadena.

“The urgent care center helps fill an important gap between a patient’s primary care doctor and a hospital’s emergency department,” said Karsten. “By providing care that can’t wait for a doctor’s appointment but isn’t life threatening, we are able to provide peace of mind, easy access, and a much-needed service that isn’t found anywhere else in the Pasadena community.”

Pasadena Community Urgent Care also houses an occupational medicine program designed to serve local employers and businesses. The program includes immediate care for on-the-job injuries as well as an array of employee health services such as pre-employment physicals, drug screenings, respiratory fit testing, lift evaluations, vision and hearing test services, post-accident care, breath alcohol testing, and X-ray and lab services.
