Mae Bwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Hywel Dda (BIP) wedi nodi ei ymrwymiad i leihau ôl troed carbon y sefydliad dros yr wyth mlynedd nesaf.

Mae cynllun y bwrdd iechyd mewn ymateb i Cynllun Cyflawni Strategol Datgarboneiddio GIG Cymru yn gosod targedau interim o leihau ôl troed carbon o 16% erbyn 2025, a gostyngiad o 34% erbyn 2030 ar gyfer sefydliadau’r GIG ledled Cymru.

Dywedodd Lee Davies, Cyfarwyddwr Gweithredol Datblygu Strategol a Chynllunio Gweithredol ym Mwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Hywel Dda: “Rydym yn gorff sector cyhoeddus mawr, ac mae gennym gyfrifoldeb ar y cyd i wneud yr hyn sydd ei angen i gyrraedd y targedau interim a gwreiddio datgarboneiddio yn ein gwaith, gweithrediadau a busnes i gefnogi uchelgais ehangach y sector gyhoeddus i fynd i’r afael â’r argyfwng hinsawdd.

“Caiff ein hôl troed carbon ei fesur ar 98,854 tunnell o CO2e, sy’n cyfateb i 9.87% o gyfanswm ôl troed GIG Cymru.

“Mae’r cynllun hwn yn gosod cyfeiriad strategol y bwrdd iechyd ar gyfer y degawd nesaf ac yn manylu ar gamau gweithredu datgarboneiddio y gellir eu cyflawni o fis Mawrth 2022 hyd at 2025, fel rhaglen gychwynnol.”

Mae cyflawni rhywbeth uchelgeisiol yn gofyn am weithredu cyflym a newid sylweddol ar draws meysydd rheoli carbon, adeiladau, trafnidiaeth, caffael, cynllunio ystadau a defnydd tir, ac ymagwedd y bwrdd iechyd at ofal iechyd gan gynnwys hyrwyddo cynaliadwyedd clinigol.

Mae llawer o'r cyfleoedd a nodwyd yn ymwneud ag adeiladau a seilwaith. Fodd bynnag, mae’r gostyngiadau mwyaf rhwng 2022 a 2025 yn deillio o brynu nwyddau a gwasanaethau gan mai dyma’r gyfran fwyaf (62%) o’r ôl troed carbon cyffredinol.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hywel Dda University Health Board (UHB) has set out its commitment to reducing the organisation’s carbon footprint over the next eight years.

The health board’s plan is in response to NHS Wales’s Decarbonisation Strategic Delivery Plan that sets interim targets of a 16% carbon footprint reduction by 2025, and a 34% reduction by 2030 for NHS organisations across Wales.

Lee Davies, Executive Director of Strategic Development & Operational Planning at Hywel Dda UHB said: “We are a large public sector body, and we have a collective responsibility to do what is needed to meet the interim targets and embed decarbonisation at the core of our operations and business to support the wider public sector ambition to address the climate emergency.

“Our carbon footprint is measured at 98,854 tonnes of CO2e, equating to 9.87% of the total NHS Wales footprint.

“This plan sets the strategic direction of travel for the health board for the next decade and details deliverable decarbonisation actions from March 2022 up to 2025, as an initial programme.”

Achieving something this ambitious requires swift action and a step-change across areas of carbon management, buildings, transport, procurement, estate planning and land use, and the health board’s approach to healthcare including promoting clinical sustainability.

Many of the identified opportunities centre around buildings and infrastructure. However, the largest reductions between 2022 and 2025 arise within the purchase of goods and services as this accounts for the greatest proportion (62%) of the overall carbon footprint.
