i3 adds SIP and MGCP to its VoIP product line - On show at CeBIT 2003 i3 micro technology adds SIP and MGCP support to its Vood(TM) product line of Voice-over-IP Residential Gateways and Terminal Adaptors. i3 micro technology, the Swedish datacom company that develops and markets products for IP-TV, video streaming and Voice-over-IP (VoIP), announced today expanded support for VoIP standards. The company now supports H.323, SIP and MGCP in its Vood(TM) product line of Voice Residential Gateways (VRGs) and its Voice Terminal Adaptor (VTA). Although the world market for VoIP and IP based Residential Gateways and Terminal Adapters is still in an early phase, it is expected to grow dramatically in the coming years. In-Stat/MDR predicts that the residential gateway market will increase from $125 million in 2001 to over $5 billion in 2006. "Adding SIP was a natural step for us, since the Vood products were built as intelligent endpoints using H.323. We now have basically the same functionality level in H.323 and SIP and can use the same value- added services," says Chris Chalkitis, Vice President of Product Management. Finishing the development effort with support for MGCP in the Vood products, gives the service providers the choice of using either a centralized or a decentralized VoIP architecture, with no need for change in the customer premise equipment. "Our high-end products, VRG 142 and VRG 242, are key elements for operators to deliver triple-play services over Ethernet-based broadband as a next generation access network using Cat-5, xDSL or fiber. Some operators expressed preference for a soft switch based solution using MGCP. They now have that choice.", says Peter Galyas Product Area Manager, IP Telephony.
