i3's Mood Box receives the world famous Good Design Award The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design has awarded i3 micro technology the Good Design(TM) Award 2002 for its set-top box, Mood Box(TM). The prize is awarded to the world's best and most innovative product designs. i3 micro technology, the Swedish datacom company that develops and markets products for IP-TV, video streaming and VoIP, has received the world famous Good Design Award 2002 for its set-top box, Mood Box(TM). The Chicago Museum's Good Design program originated in 1950 and was organized by Edgar J Kaufmann, Jr., former curator of the Museum of Modern Art. The Award publicly acknowledges and elevates the best and finest new product designs. It is awarded for originality and for stretching beyond what is considered standard product and consumer design. Good Design remains the oldest and most important design competition worldwide. Among the international awarded manufacturers for 2002 are: RADO Watch Company, Polaroid, Gilette, 3M, IBM Corporation, Hewlett-Packard, Dell, Apple, Nike, Motorola, Eastman Kodak and i3 micro technology. The Mood Box, a next-generation set-top box, is designed to fit into any home, hotel room, or commercial setting by providing users with IP-based real-time TV, video-on-demand, pay-per-view, music-on-demand, Internet browsing, e-mail and more. The Mood Box is part of the Mood(TM) (Media options on demand) product family, which consists of set-top boxes, various streaming servers, and a management system. During the fall of 2002, i3 has signed major orders for Mood Box with the American company General Dynamics Interactive for international hotel deployments and with the Australian operator TransACT for residential usage. The Mood Box is designed by the well-known Swedish industrial designer Nikolaus Frank at Frank Etc. in close co-operation with i3 and Ari Hakala at Cadland. In September 2002, i3 received the Excellent Swedish Design award for Mood Box(TM). - The Good Design Award really proves the Mood Box's attractiveness and edge at the highest international level.
