Sonera deploys i3's IP-telephony solution i3 announces that Sonera will deploy the i3 micro technology IP telephony solution Voodtm as part of their SIP-based service Puhekaista. Sonera, the leading Finnish telecom operator, and i3 micro technology, the Swedish datacom company that develops and markets products for IP-TV and Voice over IP (VoIP), announced that i3's Vood IP telephony solution has been selected for use in Sonera's Finnish broadband network. The products deployed by Sonera are the Vood Terminal Adaptor, VTAtm 111 and the i3 Centre - Element Manager. They are both part of the Voodtm (Voice-Options-On-Demand) product family, which consists of Terminal Adaptors, Residential Gateways and Management systems. The one-port Vood Terminal Adaptor, VTA111, is specifically targeted towards operators that want to offer high quality Internet Telephony services (VoIP) over broadband where people make calls using an ordinary analogue phone instead of using a PC. The VTA111 is built as an intelligent end-point and therefore enables a distributed architecture. It includes a rich set of features, from the traditional supplementary services to new innovative features enabled by a user-friendly web interface, e.g. click-to-dial, call lists and the unique Unified Voice Mail, UVMtm, feature. With its award winning design, it fits into any home. The Element Manager, which is part of the i3 Centre server family, is a key element for cost efficient mass deployment and offers centralised management of the VTAs, e.g. customer self provisioning, software upgrade and language selection on the user interface. Sonera's SIP-based Puhekaista solution is launched on the Finnish market. It targets the residential segment and will enable residential users to use their ordinary analogue phones to place calls over ADSL broadband networks. The combined Sonera/i3micro expertise in the area of home residential solutions has resulted in a very cost-effective and attractive end-user offering. For distribution, Sonera will be using the largest IT retailer in Finland, Verkkokauppa.com's shops and webshops: www.verkkokauppa.com - We have chosen the i3 micro solution after a thorough evaluation of its features, says Jari Hakalin, Departmental Director for Sonera. We are impressed with the rich feature set of the i3 micro Vood products and the company's willingness and flexibility to respond to specific customer adaptations. - We are proud to be selected by Sonera and to provide them with the leading edge technology used in the Puhekaista service, says Hans Holmberg, President, i3 micro technology. For i3 this is a very important deal. It is our first Vood order from a major telco and the deal represents an important revenue potential. It proves the competitive edge of our products at the highest international level. It is also a clear signal that the residential VoIP market has moved into a new and more dynamic phase.
