Secure Thingz collaborates with microcontroller supplier Microchip on provisioning solutions for new secure microcontrollers
Uppsala, Sweden—June 25, 2018—Secure Thingz, a subsidiary of IAR Systems Group AB (“IAR Systems”), announces its collaboration with one of the leading microcontroller suppliers, Microchip Technology Inc, for support for the new secure microcontroller family SAM L11 with Secure Thingz solutions for security.
To develop a secure digital product, developers need a secure microcontroller for the base of the product. Secure microcontrollers are characterized by for example cryptographic accelerators and protected memory areas for key and certificate storage. The supply of secure microcontrollers is so far limited, but the microcontroller suppliers have acknowledged this demand. The new SAM L11 microcontroller family from Microchip is now supported by Secure Thingz Secure Deploy architecture, which is an advanced, integrated solution for simplifying security implementations across product creation, manufacturing and management. The development tools IAR Embedded Workbench from IAR Systems also supports the new secure microcontrollers from Microchip. Further aiding the implementation of security in IoT applications, IAR Systems and Secure Thingz are jointly developing the product Embedded Trust, to enable secure development and make security part of the development workflow.
“Our customers are concerned about how to solve the challenges of implementing strong IoT security workflows, and we are working hard together with our industry colleagues and partners to provide new ways forward for ensuring that we are building a secure and sustainable future for the IoT,” says Stefan Skarin, CEO and President, IAR Systems Group AB. “The joint offering by Microchip, Secure Thingz and IAR Systems provides a great example of a partnership where we are working together leveraging our unique skills sets for the benefit of our joint customers.”
“Secure Thingz was founded on the premise of making IoT security easier to implement, and we are pleased to be able to build a robust ecosystem around this vision,” comments Haydn Povey, CEO, Secure Thingz. “Together with knowledgeable partners, we are enabling companies to deliver the next-generation secure products for the IoT.”
Secure Thingz is a provider of advanced security solutions for embedded systems in the Internet of Things (IoT). IAR Systems’ acquisition of Secure Thingz was completed in April 2018. With the acquisition, IAR Systems secures its position as a frontrunner in offering solutions for security in embedded systems.
