Belarus to Celebrate 90 Years of Cinema
On December 17, 2014, a gala short film screening will be held to mark the 90th Anniversary of the Belarusian cinema. The event will feature short films created by Belarusian directors that participated in the Cinema Perpetuum Mobile international film festival during the whole period of its existence. The screening will take place in the Museum of Modern Fine Art, Minsk, Belarus.
On December 17, 1924 the first Belarusian film studio Belgoskino, a predecessor of Belarusfilm, was established. During the 20th century, the Belarusian cinema was able to survive the war and make it the main topic of its films, to go through the restructuring period, and to lay a foundation for non–state film studios. In addition, the Belarusian film studio educated several generations of recognized documentary filmmakers and animators.
As the number o f Belarusian films is much lower compared to American and European films, the screening of Belarusian motion pictures is a rare occasion. Aimed at promotion of the Belarusian cinema, the organizers of the film festival Cinema Perpetuum Mobile(Cinema Eternal Engine) grouped Belarusian films into a special category.
To mark the 90th Anniversary of the Belarusian Cinema, Cinema Perpetuum Mobile organizes an exhibition of short motion pictures presented in the national section of the festival from 2011 to 2014. In addition, the attendees will be able to meet with award–winning directors of fiction, animation, and documentary films.
The program of the festival includes animated cartoons, underground films, documentaries, and fiction films.
