A selection of archival photographs from the collections of Belarusian museums and private collectors

A research project entitled Archive of Witness to War was launched at the Museum of Modern Fine Art located at 47, Nezavisimosti Avenue, Minsk, Belarus. The project is held in close cooperation with the audience. Archive of Witness to War is aimed at bringing up the issues of what we know about the World War I and how we relate our personal stories to the century–old events.

The authors of the project invite the guests to exceed the scope of a traditional exposition and sink into the genuine archive. A unique selection of archival photographs from the collections of the Belarusian museums and private collectors suggests thinking about the war of 1914–1918, which affected every third Belarusian. The organizers hope that the pictures of the participants of the World War I is a key to our collective and personal memory that will be able to unlock our recollections, compassion, and retrospections about the little–known war.

The visitors to the archival show are provided with magnifying glasses and white gloves. The project will result in a book, the pages of which are born here.

In addition, everyone is able to share his / her story related to the topic at the official website of the project http://war.photocentre.by

The Archive of Witness to War exhibition will be open until September 20, 2014.
