iBoxen, a company with the ambition to deploy a nationwide infrastructure of delivery boxes to pick up, return and ship packages, is now being launched. The new infrastructure will create sustainable  conditions for economic growth.

iBoxen is ready to build the independent and national wide infrastructure for the delivery, return and shipping of parcels across Sweden supported by 2 large publicly traded propoerty investment companies - Fastighets AB Balder and SBB Norden AB.

"An open and independent national infrastructure is a natural development step in supporting  e-commerce growth alongside protecting our  environment. We will make this happen," says Tim Jörnsen, CEO and co-founder of iBoxen.

E-commerce in Sweden is expected to continue to grow strongly in the coming years. Today, more than one million packages are sent every day, which is already creating challenges for the existing package distribution system. As early as 2025, at least twice as many packages are expected to be sent to Swedish households daily. The increase in parcel transport will require more delivery trucks, more congestion in our cities and additional emissions and negative environmental impacts if nothing is being done. The same impact we will see across the country. iBoxen will provide a better alternative.

iBoxen’s unique infrastructure of connected delivery boxes is supported by the Qlocx digital platform software and is independent and open to all transport companies. The new infrastructure will enable the last mile distribution of parcels to become more efficient through reduced congestion or time in traffic considering the that the boxes are placed outside and availiable 24/7/365. According to estimates, emissions per package sent can be reduced by up to 60 percent, if the boxes are used to its full potential by combining electrical delivery trucks and night deliveries in cities to iBoxen.

"Within five years, our goal is to have established the national infrastructure of  delivery boxes from the north to the south. In cities, no one should have more than 300 metres from their residence to the nearest box. In sparsely populated areas, the boxes are placed in strategically chosen locations to significantly shorten the distance required to pick up and to return packages understadning that plus 80% of volume in Sweden is collected at service points. Driving convinience for small business owners and individuals. The boxes will be available 24/7/365 and offer a service  on par with home delivery.  iBoxen's new infrastructure will facilitate the rapid growth in  e-commerce, which increased at staggering numbers during  2020 as a result of the Corona pandemic,” says Tim Jörnsen, founder and CEO of iBoxen.

“iBoxen is an infrastructure company. We are the rail-tracks and the carriers are the train operators. We are building an infrastructure that carriers can use to offer existing and new, attractive customer solutions. We are an alternative to home deliveries and a complement to service points."

Phase 1 and during the first quarter of 2021, iBoxen will deploy delivery boxes in the Stockholm and Boden municipalities. After the initial phase,  a continued deployment is planned in the Stockholm region, Gothenburg and Malmö during the year 2021-2022. This is followed by a broad deployment in more than 2,000 communities across the country between 2023 and 2026.

How iBoxen's delivery boxes work

iBoxen's delivery box is about two meters high, one meter wide and a little over half a meter deep (2058x1100x690 mm), and has room for 16 hatches that are enabled to be opened with the help of software from Qlocx. The boxes are built to be placed outdoors. This gives both receivers and carriers access to the box 24 hours a day, all year round. To be able to pick up a package once it has been delivered, the recipient should have downloaded the carrier's app or have received a text message from the carrier along with having their mobile phone with Bluetooth turned on. The boxes then communicate with the receiver via Bluetooth. The company iBoxen will not have any contact with recipients of packages. All customer contact takes place through the transport companies. iBoxen's delivery boxes are an alternative to home deliveries and a complement to outlet deliveries.

This is iBoxen

iBoxen makes Sweden available for everyone, all the time. By soon offering approximately 50,000 delivery boxes utilizing software from Qlocx – from north to south – carriers, businesses and e-commerce consumers will have easy access to an independent and open infrastructure to receive, return and send packages that create the opportunity for carriers to become more sustainable.  The infrastructure enables continued rapid expansion of e-commerce – in a more sustainable way. Since the box is never farther away than 300 meters from the recipients' homes in urban areas, a service that is almost as comfortable as a home delivery is possible. The boxes lead to fewer and shorter transport distances in rural areas and create the conditions for night deliveries by electric vehicles in cities. All for a better environment and accessibility.

iBoxen is owned by the founders, Fastighets AB Balder and Samhällsbyggnadsbolaget i Norden AB. iBoxen is financed to expand the network of boxes throughout Sweden during the years 2021-2026.
