ICA to offer express deliveries of prepared food
Eating out is on the rise in Sweden, while many restaurants also offer home delivery. To be even better at meeting customers’ needs for convenience and simple solutions, this autumn ICA will be launching express deliveries of prepared meal solutions combined with groceries. In the first step of the launch, the service will be offered by a dozen or so stores in Sweden.
The new service will feature home delivery of prepared meal solutions together with a selection of food products from local ICA retailers within an hour.
“Customers want more convenience, and this gives us an opportunity to reach customers who want a fully prepared meal, where ICA previously hasn’t been an option. We are currently conducting a pilot and plan to proceed with a broader launch at the same time that we continue developing the service by looking into various types of delivery and technology opportunities,” comments Per Strömberg, CEO of ICA Gruppen.
The restaurant sector has grown faster than the grocery retail trade for many years and has developed its delivery capabilities via various digital third-party services. In parallel with this, ICA and many ICA retailers have focused on developing the offering of prepared meals in stores.
It is ICA’s innovation hub ICAx that has worked on developing this new service. Through the service, customers will be able to quickly order various dishes for dinner and at the same time complement their orders with other groceries, such as breakfast items. In the pilot, electric bikes are being used for delivery, but in the launch this autumn, the stores will experiment with a range of delivery alternatives.
