LOS ANGELES, May 24, 2010 – ICDC College is pleased to announce that it will participate in the Department of Defense’s Military Spouse Career Advancement Account (MyCAA) that provides up to $6,000 for eligible military spouses to attend college, pursue career training, or obtain licenses and further credentials in various high-demand “portable” career choices.

Eligible spouses of active duty military personnel, National Guard and Reservists are eligible to receive benefits under MyCAA. In February, the Department of Defense (DoD) temporarily suspended MyCAA to develop new parameters in order to better operate the program more effectively and continue to meet its goal in providing military spouses with the education and job training needed to become more competitive in today’s challenging job market. On March 13, 2010 the DoD partially resumed the MYCAA program to honor the processing of financial assistance for the 136,583 spouses currently enrolled under the program, but also reserved the right not to approve or pay for additional benefits, until a complete review of the program is conducted.

ICDC College was delighted to learn that MyCAA has been reinstated because we understand the importance of education to military spouses who have unselfishly put their careers on hold to raise their families when frequent relocations often made it difficult for them to pursue a quality education,” said George Ingersoll, Online Campus Director. “ICDC College offers unique programs such as Addiction Treatment Counseling, Alcohol and Drug Counseling, Homeland Security & Investigation Diploma programs, as well as Associate Degrees in Alcohol and Drug Counseling, Homeland Security and Paralegal which are typically not offered at other institutions. These programs meet the DoD’s objective in providing eligible military spouses with in-demand, high-growth career choices that have the added bonus of providing excellent relocation potential.”

Military spouses can also take advantage of funds to pay for high school completion courses, G.E.D Tests and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes. “The beauty of MyCAA is that it takes into consideration that military spouses are in need of education at various levels and now provides a vehicle to make this happen. ICDC College is similar in the fact that we offer various training programs from free G.E.D. classes in partnership with the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) to fast track career programs and two-year Associate’s degrees” says Lisa L. McGloiry, J.D., Director of Media Relations and Community Outreach.” “ICDC College’s course offerings, combined with the benefits of the MyCAA program, offer military spouses a powerful resource to further their educational goals.”

ICDC College’s short-term diploma/certificate programs also offer military spouses the opportunity to pursue portable careers in fields such as, Accounting, Counseling, Homeland Security, Legal, and Medical. ICDC College’s motto “College Designed to Get You Hired” creates an environment where enrolled military spouses can also take advantage of the College’s job placement assistance program that helps lead to employment opportunities.
