LOS ANGELES – May 9, 2011 – Students from ICDC College’s four Los Angeles area campuses celebrated the Cinco de Mayo holiday yesterday.  Live mariachi bands, traditional dancing, fresh tacos and non-alcoholic margaritas were enjoyed by ICDC College students and staff.  A majority of students enrolled at ICDC College’s Los Angeles campuses are of Hispanic origin, though ICDC College staff use the holiday as an opportunity to honor all students who participate in its many career training programs.  As part of its mission, ICDC College makes an effort to reach those who might not otherwise pursue a higher education, and the school takes every opportunity to honor the progress and achievements of its students.

At ICDC College’s Huntington Park campus, students pursuing diplomas in high-demand careers like Homeland Security, Alcohol and Drug Counseling, Medical Office Management and many other programs enjoyed live mariachi music and traditional foods from Mexico.

“Our Cinco de Mayo event was cultural, energetic and lots of fun!” said Yana Treystman, Campus President, ICDC College. “Students were able to mingle, relax and enjoy a break.”

At the Van Nuys campus of ICDC College, Cinco de Mayo celebrations were particularly lively, with a few students performing a traditional dance from Mexico.

“Cinco de Mayo is an important celebration at ICDC College’s Van Nuys campus every year because we start it off by distributing our Perfect Attendance Awards,” said Ruby Montelongo, Director of Student Services, ICDC College. “We have many Latino students here, but all our ICDC students enjoy this event.”

The Van Nuys campus invited a live mariachi band to play traditional music for its students, who also enjoyed fresh tacos served onsite by Taco Mexico restaurant.  Similar celebrations were held for students at ICDC College’s South Bay and Hollywood campuses.
