LOS ANGELES – May 31, 2011 – ICDC College has expanded its online programs to now offer a Forensic Scientist Associate of Occupational Studies degree program. The Forensic Scientist degree provides students with in-depth instruction in three major disciplines: science, law enforcement and criminal justice. The program also features a virtual laboratory environment that provides students with field experience through real-life case studies involving crime scene assessment, investigation, and evidence collection – laboratory exercises similar to those taught in a traditional classroom setting.

ICDC College’s online students learn the fundamentals of processing and analyzing crime scene evidence using forensics, including blood stain evidence, fingerprint analysis, footwear impressions, ballistics, DNA, cyber-crime investigations and other topics related to criminal justice.

Students may also have to satisfy additional requirements such as passing an exam, drug test or background check based upon the state where the student will seek employment.  Students with questions regarding additional requirements or limitations to employment in this field may contact ICDC College to get more information and referrals to state-specific agencies. If individuals have no limitations or prohibitions to employment, ICDC graduates are qualified to pursue employment as civilian forensic science specialists in federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, private forensic labs, military crime labs, and coroner’s and medical examiner’s offices.

Crime scene investigation (CSI) and forensic science have gained recent popularity because of increased public interest in various television programs that feature CSI specialists who analyze facts through scientific methods to aid law enforcement professionals in investigating crimes. Though many people are now interested in forensic science, a broad base of knowledge and skills is necessary to qualify for employment in this growing field.  For this reason, ICDC College’s Forensic Scientist Associate’s Degree curriculum incorporates three major fields in one training program to provide students with comprehensive instruction in forensic science, law enforcement and criminal justice. Combining these three key areas distinguishes ICDC’s Forensic Scientist online degree program from others.

“Forensic Science is a field that is constantly evolving and changing over time, which affords students the opportunity to learn and analyze new and exciting information on a daily basis,” says Jessica McNabb, Forensics Specialist, Instructor, ICDC College’s Homeland Security and Forensic Scientist programs.
