Copper tube specialist KME Yorkshire has announced significant investment in a state-of-the-art heating system that will save money and reduce the carbon footprint of its UK manufacturing plant.

The £160K system will increase heating efficiency by a minimum of 30 per cent, reduce energy bills at the Kirkby based copper tube factory by more than £40k per year and decrease C02 by 335t.

Management at KME Yorkshire, which has been manufacturing its Yorkshire Copper Tube branded products in the UK for more than 60 years, worked closely with plant employees to ensure that the heaters are placed in the best possible positions for maximum effectiveness.

The heating system is being built and will be installed by market leading heater manufacturers Schwanke, which specialises in radiant plaque heaters.

Regarded as one of the most modern factories in the world, KME Yorkshire’s plant combines advanced manufacturing methods and sophisticated quality control techniques to ensure that only consistently high standard tubes are supplied to customers.

This latest announcement is part of an on-going substantial investment programme that underlines the company’s commitment to excellence in product quality and customer service.

Paul Smith, Plant Director at KME Yorkshire, said: “The new heating system will reduce our carbon footprint and provide us with significant cost benefits in the coming years.

“I worked closely with Schwanke to ensure the best possible solution for our factory and involved all shop floor staff in the decision making process when it came to designing the layout of the new system.

“We are also modifying our Building Energy Management System to optimise the benefits and I look forward to seeing the project completed.”

KME Yorkshire is a member of the KME Group of companies, which together represent the world’s largest producer of copper and copper alloy materials.

All Yorkshire’s copper tubes carry the British Kitemark and the company’s Quality Management System is BS EN 9001 approved.
