MEDICX Pharmacy has been inspiring the next generation of pharmacists with advice for a successful career and how to prepare for working in a clinical healthcare environment.

In a speech to members of the British Pharmaceutical Students’ Association, Gavin Birchall, Operations Director of MedicX Pharmacy, drew on careers guidance he had supplied for publication in pharmacy magazine C+D.

Advice about the importance of adopting a positive attitude, delivering competency across many different disciplines, embracing new experiences and being pro-active were among his top tips to pharmacy students at their annual conference at the University of Sunderland.

MedicX Pharmacy has a total of 13 pharmacy practices located across the country, including Blackpool, Chorley, Lytham and Greater Manchester; its headquarters are located in Chorley.

Gavin explained: “It was great to see so many enthusiastic pharmacy students at the conference and offer them a deeper understanding of the profession and what they can expect from it.

“I revealed my five top tips for career success which have already been featured in C+D magazine and talked extensively about what individuals needed to do to rise through the ranks and enjoy a rewarding professional life.

“I also offered some important insight into how to prepare to be a pharmacist working in a clinical environment and tried to foster an understanding of the broader healthcare community.”

This year the British Pharmaceutical Students Association (BPSA) celebrated its 70th Annual Conference.

It attracted more than 200 delegates including undergraduate pharmacy students and pre-registered pharmacists from all across the UK, Europe and as far as Malaysia. The BPSA is the official student organisation of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.

Ryan Hamilton, BPSA President 2011-12, said “Gavin Birchall of MedicX Pharmacy delivered an engaging and stimulating presentation to the delegates at our Annual Conference.

“Many of our members want to practice within the community sector, own their own pharmacy, and deliver a service which is clinically and patient focused.

“Gavin showed how the MedicX Pharmacy model achieves this and our delegates came away inspired and eager to talk with him further.”
