Medicx Pharmacy Ossett & Stoptober campaign

MEDICX Pharmacy Ossett is encouraging more people to stop smoking during the Government’s high profile Stoptober Campaign.

Team members at the pharmacy practice,located at the Ossett Health Village, are using the Department of Health 28-day campaign as an opportunity to talk to even more people about the benefits of quitting.

Specially trained advisors are available at MedicX Pharmacy Ossett to offer one-to-one consultations with individuals to discuss their health and lifestyle, reasons for quitting and the wide range of nicotine replacement products available. There are patches, sprays, tablets and chewing gum in a variety of flavours and strengths which all contain nicotine but without the harmful chemicals present in cigarettes that cause heart disease and cancers.

Smoking is still the biggest cause of preventable death and disease in England and the Government’s Stoptober Campaign ‘it’s like October but without cigarettes’ offers support, advice and strategies for people who want to give up.

MedicX Pharmacy Ossett is commissioned by the local Primary Care Trust to provide smoking cessation services including the provision of nicotine replacement products free of charge on the NHS for a specified period.

Pharmacy Manager Laura White said: “The Department of Health’s Stoptober campaign is a great opportunity to help even more people quit smoking.

“Our healthcare assistants and dispensers are specially trained to talk to individuals about their health and lifestyle as well as why they want to stop and how.

“Not only do we provide advice and support, but we also measure patients’ carbon monoxide levels and provide the most appropriate nicotine replacement product for their individual situation – whether they have cravings all day or just at certain times!”

As well as traditional dispensing and a free prescription delivery service, MedicX Pharmacy Ossett provides the following services: blood pressure services, cholesterol services, diabetes services, Healthy Heart Service and Smoking Cessation Services.

MedicX Pharmacy started in 2008 under the leadership of Chief Executive Steve Jeffers and Operations Director Gavin Birchall.

Steve and Gavin have both worked extensively within the pharmaceutical sector at all levels from owning and managing pharmacy practices to spearheading national pharmaceutical research, working with the NHS and Primary Care Trusts as well as working with specialist health centre developers.

MedicX Pharmacy practices provide a wide variety of innovative and integrated pharmacy services. Many practices operate 100-hour working licences to provide late night opening hours throughout the week as well as on Bank Holidays including Christmas Day and Easter Sunday.
