THE MALL BLACKBURN CELEBRATES DEBENHAMS’ MULTI-MILLION POUND EXTENSION AND REFURBISHMENT
THE Mall Blackburn has warmly welcomed plans for a multi-million pound refurbishment and extension of Debenhams in Blackburn.
An additional 4,000sqft of retail space is set to be created significantly strengthening Debenhams’ position as one of The Mall Blackburn’s principal anchor stores.
Improvements will include a new and enlarged store entrance, new flooring, lighting and internal finishes while the enlarged retail space will total 90,000 sqft, across three floors.
Work is expected to start in 2013 and finish in the summer; Debenhams will remain open during the refurbishments.
Loraine Jones, General Manager of The Mall Blackburn which reopened after a £66m redevelopment in 2010, said: “This is excellent news for The Mall Blackburn and for shoppers across Lancashire.
“Debenhams’ decision to upsize illustrates its continued confidence in The Mall Blackburn which since its redevelopment has enabled many of its retailers to expand and attract more customers.
“The newly developed Debenhams store will offer an amazing new shopping experience and we look forward to seeing work begin soon.”
Rob Hadfield, Director of Property for Debenhams, said: “We are delighted to announce that we are extending our current store by 4,000 sqft.
“The extra trading space will allow us to expand our cosmetics, fashion accessories and menswear offering by bringing in well-known brands such as Benefit, Bare Minerals, Barratts and Quiz to the community of Blackburn.
“Customers will continue to enjoy designer collections at high street prices that Debenhams is famous for, including H! by Henry Holland, Principles by Ben de Lisi, J by Jasper Conran, Star by Julien Macdonald and Rocha by John Rocha in an enhanced shopping environment.”
