Yorkshire Copper Tube was in the hands of the world’s finest plumbers at the recent WorldSkills Plumbing and Heating contest 2011 event after the company provided £1000’s of product through main sponsor Plumbase.

As a company that is proud of its British heritage, Yorkshire Copper Tube was delighted when 22 year old Shane Trevitt from Wirral was named best in the world after competing against leading plumbers from across the globe.

Competitors worked with Yorkshire’s Yorkex Tube to complete tasks such as designing and building a heated towel rail in the shape of Tower Bridge.  The majority of products used in the Plumbing and Heating contest were provided by Plumbase.

Neil Overton, Commercial Director at Yorkshire Copper Tube, said: “It was fantastic to be involved with such a major event through valued customer Plumbase and it was brilliant to see that the UK triumphed in the competition.

“It is vital that the skill of our home grown talent is recognised and WorldSkills London 2011 was the perfect platform to showcase these abilities, which are a result of the hard work and determination of the young people that took part.

“When we were approached by Plumbase to provide products we didn’t hesitate and we would like to thank them for giving us the opportunity to contribute.”

Roger Goodwin, Head of Merchandising at Plumbase, added: “We were proud to sponsor such a prestigious event that highlights the importance of skills and training for the business people of tomorrow.

“Many of our suppliers, including Yorkshire Copper Tube, provided world class products for the competitors in the Heating and Plumbing contest and we would like to thank them all for their support.

“Plumbase wholeheartedly agrees with the points raised by UK Minister of State for Further Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning, John Hayes MP, which focus around the importance of investing in our young people to help them learn skills to achieve greater employment options and fulfil their true potential.

“The event was a complete success and we would like to, once again, extend our congratulations to the British winner of the Plumbing and Heating contest Shane Trevitt.”

WorldSkills London 2011 was attended by 150,000 visitors and 944 competitors representing 41 countries.  It was held over four days at ExCel in London and the aim of the event was to showcase the skills that are used in global enterprise and business, including plumbing and heating.
