A DEGREE apprentice at leading software company, Ideagen Plc, has been crowned Outstanding Apprentice of the Year in this year’s Nottingham Trent University (NTU) Apprenticeship Awards.

Bethany Pass joined Ideagen in its 2020 intake of apprentices and has since undertaken roles in its mobile app development, UX & UI (user experience and user interface) and Research & Development teams.

Every year, NTU celebrates the achievements of its apprenticeship providers and apprentices themselves and Bethany was named the winner in the Financial, Legal & Business Services category of this year’s Outstanding Apprentices.

Bethany, originally from Loughborough, is in the second year of her Digital & Technology Solutions professional degree which is fully funded by Ideagen.

Ruddington-based Ideagen works in partnership with NTU to offer a number of degree-level apprenticeships – seven at present - in conjunction with practical training to help combine developing workplace and occupational skills while studying for a degree.

Louise Tommasi, Ideagen’s Chief People Officer, said: “We are so proud of our apprenticeship scheme at Ideagen and it’s fantastic that Bethany has been recognised for her contribution as an apprentice in our business. She has shown determination second-to-none which has helped her both excel in her studies and play a pivotal role in her position within Ideagen.

“We offer apprenticeships in many areas of the business, from level two up to degree level, giving people a valuable opportunity to gain a recognised qualification with certificated work experience, while continuing to earn a salary and work full time. The programme really is laying the foundations within the individuals as potential leaders of the future and developing the skills for future prosperity.”

As part of her work at Ideagen, Bethany has undertaken a key role in the company’s Think Big programme, in partnership with Nottingham Forest Community Trust, which promotes technology as a career choice by raising awareness of the different technology-related career paths. It aims to increase the number of young people embarking on technology careers post-education and widen opportunities for local young people by providing them with high quality learning experiences.

As part of Think Big, Ideagen has also committed to opening up a total of thirty apprenticeships throughout the next three years, from intermediate (level 2) to degree level.

Bethany is currently undertaking an internal engagement focused role within Ideagen’s People team, and commented: “Being named the winner of this award is an honour and one which I’m extremely proud of. I have had such a great experience as an apprentice at Ideagen and the knowledge and skills that I have gained have been key to expanding my skillset and guiding me through my career so far.

“I didn’t previously have any technology related qualifications and I’m hugely grateful to Ideagen for giving me such a fantastic opportunity to enter the industry. I’m striving for onwards and upwards in the future, continuing to develop my skills and capabilities and aiming for the best opportunities and achievements that I can reach.”
