Nigel Whitehead of BAE Systems to present IET Viscount Nuffield/Mensforth Lecture 2014
Free to attend Prestige Lecture to address Advanced Manufacturing in the Defence Industry
The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) is delighted to announce that the IET Viscount Nuffield/Mensforth Lecture 2014 will be delivered by Nigel Whitehead, Group Managing Director, Programmes & Support, BAE Systems. Nigel will be giving his perspective on advanced manufacturing in the defence industry at this free-to-attend lecture, which is part of the IET Prestige Lecture Series, taking place at the University of Strathclyde on 27 March 2014.
Nigel has responsibility for some of the UK’s largest engineering, manufacturing and support services programmes. Appointed Group Managing Director of Programmes & Support at BAE Systems in 2008, he has been active in the defence and security sectors for nearly 30 years, working on design, development, production and support programmes in the UK, Sweden and Australia. Nigel was recently awarded the Sir Eric Mensforth Gold Medal by the IET for his major contribution and sustained excellence in international manufacturing, with an official presentation of his medal taking place before the lecture.
Nigel, a Chartered Engineer, is also a Commissioner at the UK Commission for Employment and Skills and a champion of vocational skills and apprenticeships in particular.
The IET Viscount Nuffield/Mensforth Lecture was established in honour of the life of William Richard Morris, 1st Viscount Nuffield and President of the Institution of Manufacturing Engineers. It also recognises the contribution of Sir Eric Mensforth, who helped create and then led the Westland Company. Mensforth was also President of the Institution of Production Engineers from 1967-69.
The IET Prestige Lectures are free to attend events, offering the opportunity to hear about the future of engineering from the sector’s most prominent thought leaders. Delegates can also request a certificate if they wish to have evidence of their attendance for their CPD records. All the lectures are streamed live as webcasts and are available to watch on demand at IET.tv. Registration for the Viscount Nuffield lecture is through the IET’s website: www.theiet.org/nuffield
