The world’s three millionth key was issued in Amsterdam

The world’s three millionth iLOQ key delivered to Amsterdam housing association De Key

The millionth iLOQ key was delivered in December 2016 in the Swedish town of Haparanda. The two millionth key followed in April 2019 in Tampere, in the home country of the leading digital locking systems: Finland. Less than 18 months later, the milestone of three million keys has been reached.

Seeking the right solution

iLOQ delivered this three millionth key to housing association De Key. De Key accommodates almost 3000 international students in the Dutch capital each year. The students often arrive in large numbers at the same time. Students sometimes arrive at Schiphol in the middle of the night and want to get into their accommodation right away. De Key, represented by Warner Thijssen, had been looking for an access system to suit this type of rental situation for some years. Following several trial installations, the right solution was found in iLOQ S50: a digital locking system without a physical key and with no need for internet access, Wi-Fi, electricity or batteries. It is also very easy to install and to reuse in the case of temporary housing.

Collaboration between De Key, GuestCompass and iLOQ

The GuestCompass app is the digital platform for De Key’s (international) students. They will find all the information they need about the housing complex, and about residency in general there. By integrating the functions of iLOQ into this app, this environment also forms the key to the building and to the apartment and delivers an optimal online guest experience. GuestCompass allows the issuing of the key and the check-in process to be fully automated. This combination of functions and applications delivers a number of benefits:

•            Ease of use for the manager and end user

•            The property manager can easily and safely grant access remotely

•            Reduced risk since there are no spare keys to store and issue, and there are no physical master keys in circulation

De Key housing association will work with the iLOQ S50 (mobile keys) and iLOQ S5 (digital keys). The S50 cylinders, with no physical key, are used in the student accommodation for international students with a maximum contract of one year. The S5 cylinders, with physical locks and a digital key, are used in the properties that are home to students or young adults (aged 18 to 28) in their first home.

Win-win for all concerned

At the beginning of 2020, De Key joined forces with Isero to handle the implementation and installation across all De Key projects. The unique thing about this collaboration is that iLOQ is the manufacturer of the cylinders and keys, GuestCompass is the supplier in the field of the online guest experience, including the apps, and Isero is responsible for the actual roll-out at the students’ homes. This year kicked off with the roll-out of projects on the Poeldijkstraat, Prins Hendrikkade, Meer en Vaart, Zuiderzeeweg and H. Cleyndertweg.
