Washington, DC (March 14, 2013) – Career colleges know the commitments and personal sacrifices of military students and their families. Career training-oriented colleges have been a popular destination for military personnel who prefer the hands on approach to learning, one-on-one attention and courses that help them transition into jobs faster than traditional colleges or universities. The Imagine America Foundation (IAF) has done its part over the years in helping students transition from the military into the realm of career education.

Every year, the IAF honors a select group of military students with its LDRSHIP Awards. For nearly a decade, the IAF has honored these students annually. Since the awards’ inception, more than $400,000 has been awarded to exceptional military students attending career colleges nationwide. During this time, the IAF has provided financial assistance to young men and women returning from military service in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as reservists, honorably discharged, retired and active duty military personnel.

The IAF is pleased to announce the launch of the 2013 LDRSHP Award. The LDRSHIP Award offers up to $2,500 in cash grants toward college tuition to active duty, reservist, honorably discharged or retired U.S. military veterans attending a participating Imagine America institution. These awards are made possible by Ambassador Education Solutions and other donors to the 21st Century Workforce Fund.

“The LDRSHIP Awards are a tribute to the students who have distinguished themselves in the U.S. military and in the classroom,” said Steven M. Blicht, Chief Operating Officer of Ambassador Education Solutions, a leading provider of course materials management and delivery for higher education institutions. “We are privileged to help honor students who have bravely fought for our freedom!”

To show the tremendous work of our nation’s career colleges the Imagine America Foundation has assembled a publication, The Highest Honor, sharing the stories of 26 students who have received the LDRSHIP Award and chosen to attend a career college. In this publication, you can read the commitments, personal sacrifices and harrowing challenges many of these former military members have faced in an effort to pursue a degree or postsecondary credential.

“Many of these stories are nothing short of fascinating – and all of them inspiring,” said Robert L. Martin, President and CEO of the Imagine America Foundation.
