Imagine America Foundation’s Adult Excellence Award Offers Funds to a Growing Population of Students
Washington, D.C. (Jan. 9, 2013) – As the U.S. economy continues to struggle in regaining its footing, many adult students are pursuing an education and hoping to improve their current skills. Typically, many non-traditional adult students are juggling additional responsibilities while choosing to further their education. They may be already caring for a family and working full time. Sometimes they need a financial bump to make the leap back into the classroom.
In the last year, the Imagine America Adult Skills Education Program (ASEP) grew by 17 percent. To continue to help non-traditional students, the Foundation developed the Adult Excellence Award. This Award provides additional financial assistance to students who are attending participating Imagine America institutions through ASEP. Each Adult Excellence Award provides a $500 cash grant toward the student’s tuition balance.
The Adult Excellence Awards are funded through contributions made by our sponsor MaxKnowledge and other contributors to the 21st Century Workforce Fund.
“The Foundation would like to be able to help ease the financial burden of adult students who already have responsibilities outside of pursuing an education,” said Robert L. Martin, President of the Imagine America Foundation. “By providing this Award, we help more students successfully reach their career goals.”
The Foundation’s ASEP program was launched in 2009 to provide tuition assistance and college scholarships for adult students enrolling at career colleges. Through the program, students can receive a $1,000 tuition discount to attend any school participating in Imagine America’s ASEP program.
All adult students must complete a student assessment provided by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). NCCT researchers have identified characteristics of successful non-traditional students and used those characteristics to design this cutting-edge assessment.
