The Imagine America Foundation Announces Adult Excellence Award Recipients

Non-traditional students are already faced with daunting challenges in attaining a higher education, and yet they also have to address another harsh reality when it comes to financial aid: not many scholarships are available to them. This year the Imagine America Foundation created a new scholarship to benefit non-traditional students attending career colleges or “for-profit” schools.

The Adult Excellence Award was developed to provide financial assistance to students who are attending participating Imagine America institutions through its Adult Skills Education Program (ASEP). In addition to the $1,000 ASEP award, Adult Excellence Award recipients received another $500 towards their tuition.

In its first year 75 students from 38 different career college campuses received the Adult Excellence Award. Students were nominated by their college because of their exceptional academic achievements. Recipients of the Adult Excellence Award had a cumulative 3.5 GPA and a 95% or higher attendance record.

“These students took the financial assistance we initially provided and did something fantastic,” said Robert L. Martin, president of IAF. “This is the type of student we have in mind when we talk about helping the next generation of leaders meet their career goals. That’s what the Imagine America Foundation is all about.”

The Adult Excellence Awards are funded through contributions made by our sponsor MaxKnowledge and contributors to the 21st Century Workforce Fund.

“These students have demonstrated their strong commitment to higher education and career success,” said Dr. Amir Moghadam, CEO of MaxKnowledge. “We are very pleased to support such deserving students through IAF’s Adult Excellence Award.”

The Foundation’s ASEP program was launched in 2009 to provide tuition assistance and college scholarships for adult students enrolling at career colleges. Through that program, students can receive a $1,000 tuition grant to attend an Imagine America participating ASEP school of their choice.
