Come with us on a journey through Saxony-Anhalt and discover logistics in action. In advance of the 2nd International Hinterland Conference in Halle (Saale), we invite you cordially on March 11th, 2015 to Saxony-Anhalt.
We present Saxony-Anhalt as the logistics hub of central Germany. During the Hinterland Conference that follows, we will present not only a diverse range of opportunities for utilising combined transport to aid in resource optimisation, but will touch on the synergistic effects that take place when logistics specialists and service providers bundle value chains within the industry. Our program includes exclusive insights into companies, such as the Finsterwalder Transport und Logistik GmbH. We experience multimodality at the Hafen Halle GmbH, the port of the city of Halle (Saale) and the impressive automated train formation depot of Deutsche Bahn. We also want to visit with you CargoBeamer in Leipzig, a prime example of CO2-saving logistical interfaces, funded by the EU Marco Polo II programme.
With extensive support by funding from the European Regional Development Fund (short: ERDF), the port hinterland Saxony-Anhalt is facing the emerging traffic growth. Besides this, the logistics location Saxony-Anhalt has, particularly in the areas of infrastructure and logistics research, great potential to actively participate in this trend and to use it for further economic development of the state.
With over 600 kilometres of navigable inland waterways, 18 ports and trans-shipment points, an 11,000 km network of roads and one of the world’s densest rail networks, Saxony-Anhalt is quite well situated not just in terms of infrastructure. An essential part therefore plays the infrastructure funding of the EU funds by the European Union.

Background of the Hinterland Conference:
The press trip is taking place as part of the European conference on port hinterlands. The conference is being organised by Saxony-Anhalt’s Logistics.Initiative and by the Investment and Marketing Corporation. Initiated at the behest of the Saxony-Anhalt Ministry of Regional Development and Transport and financed with technical assistance from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the goal of the conference is to serve as a platform for knowledge sharing between European logistics specialists, firms and service providers. The event provides an opportunity to focus on the challenges of a sustainable commitment of EU Structural Funds to the central German logistics region in the context of the Europe 2020 Strategy.
