Companies from the federal state to attend the Intersolar Europe 2016

Magdeburg/Munich. From 22nd until 24th June 2016, businesses and scientific institutes from Saxony-Anhalt will be attending the Intersolar Europe 2016 in Munich, where they will be showcasing their products and solutions for the modern provision of energy from renewable sources and aiming to broaden their business opportunities to new markets. At the joint stand in hall A3, stand 470 organised by the Investment and Marketing Corporation Saxony-Anhalt (IMG), with sophisticated technology, they will show how Saxony-Anhalt, the leading federal state in Germany for renewable energy, covers the entire value added chain for photovoltaics. This is because the relevant businesses and research institutes in this sector based in the federal state form a centre of expertise, from the production to the storage to the efficient use of energy and its incorporation in sustainable and affordable systems for the provision of energy. Saxony-Anhalt is home to some 23,000 photovoltaic systems, and around 2,700 wind turbines operate at 97 wind power plants. Every second kilowatt hour in the federal state is now generated by wind power, solar power or biomass.

One company that stands as an example for the technological edge offered by small and medium-sized companies in the federal state is Flying Inspection Service, which specialises in the thermographic testing of photovoltaic systems with infra-red technology. Flexible drones with ultra-modern camera technology combined with a customer-specific, highly detailed system of evaluation enable the efficient checking for possible defects over areas that are extensive and hard to access. The specialist expertise of the company from the town of Blankenburg in Saxony-Anhalt is sought after by industry professionals throughout the world, and at the Intersolar Europe 2016 its managing director Markus Köhler will be presenting his latest brainchild: the surveying of photovoltaic systems with manned aircraft.

With technology for the recycling of photovoltaic modules that is unique worldwide, at the company CWT Chemische Werke Tangermünde GmbH, which is part of the Loser Holding Group, the first industrial system for the recycling of PV scrap has been developed, separating the fragile glass layers of the thin film modules from each other cleanly and providing high-quality raw materials to the industry. Rare metals such as indium, selenium, tellurium and gallium – which are otherwise expensive and have to be imported – are recovered from the scrap. The pure panel glass can be used directly for the manufacturing of float glass and the glass from the back-cover that contains iron can be used in the manufacturing of glass for windows. During conventional recycling processes these materials are always lost.

The company Calyxo GmbH, the only European manufacturer of solar modules with cadmium telluride, can boast some spectacular projects: a skyscraper equipped with its modules in Beirut and the parliament building in Belfast. Calyxo manufactures under normal pressure conditions. Nitrogen is used as the carrier gas and cadmium telluride that has been heated to 1,000 degrees Celsius is 'blown' onto the glass which is only heated to 600 degrees Celsius. Calyxo holds a patent for this deposition process under atmospheric pressure. The cost saving is particularly convincing, which applies to both the acquisition of the systems for the vacuum technology as well as the production processes which use less energy over the long term.
