IMPACT KEEPS VAE UK’S FLEET ON TRACK WITH NEW CAT® LIFT TRUCKS
Release date: 11 February 2016
VAE UK has strengthened its fleet of materials handling equipment after taking delivery of two new Cat® lift trucks, including one new 2.5 tonne and one refurbished 5 tonne diesel-powered counterbalance models, plus one Lancer sideloader and one Bulmor sideloader, from Impact.
This is the first time VAE UK, a provider of railway turnout systems, has worked with Impact. Key to securing the order was Impact’s ability to provide the company with bespoke attachments specifically adapted for use in railway applications.
VAE UK’s engineering site in Edinburgh, which bends and grinds the rails to be used in the turnout systems, has received a bespoke sideloader, complete with a raised cab and a rail stabiliser arm designed for lifting long lengths of track.
Jeremy Hazelden, Purchasing Officer at VAE UK, said: “One of our requirements was to have a machine that could securely lift and grip lengths of track up to 30m long. After speaking to Impact, they went away and designed a 15m lifting frame which essentially gives us two extra forks outside the scope of a regular truck.”
Also crucial to VAE UK’s decision to begin working with Impact was the flexibility the company offered. Mr Hazelden adds: “When we put this order out to tender, what really stood out was the flexibility Impact was willing to bring to the table. It made us secure in the knowledge that our materials handling fleet could be adapted should our requirements change.”
The two Cat lift trucks and the second sideloader have been delivered to the company’s system layout and testing facility in Harworth, Nottinghamshire. The durable DP25N 2.5 tonne truck is primarily being used to unload pallets and for assembling layout kits containing the switches and crossings being tested at the site before installation in the rail network.
The larger heavy-duty DP50N 5 tonne truck is responsible for lifting railway sleepers and placing them into formation. Both trucks are equipped with a full cab and will be used intensively outdoors five days a week.
The versatile DP25N forklift is perfectly suited for industrial applications, with outstanding traction on slippery or sloping surfaces. Easy maintenance and built-in warning systems help to minimise downtime, and keep the truck in service. Equipped with a powerful, yet efficient diesel engine, fuel consumption and emissions are kept to a minimum.
With exceptional endurance and power, the DP50N forklift is the natural choice for use in metal operations, effortlessly handling the most difficult and heavy loads even when operating at full capacity. A durable six cylinder diesel engine provides plenty of power and torque for even the most demanding of movements.
VAE UK, part of the voestalpine Group, also provides diagnostic and hazard notification systems for all railway applications, ranging from high speed to heavy haul and urban traffic.
