Dovecote Park, a dedicated beef supplier to one of the UK’s most prestigious supermarkets, has added seven new stainless steel ULMA Inoxtrucks to its materials handling fleet, supplied by Impact Handling.

The order comprises two ride-on and five walk-behind power pallet trucks and marks the first time Impact Handling has provided equipment to the West Yorkshire-based company. Impact Handling impressed during a competitive tender process which saw it modify a trial ULMA machine to fit the customer’s exact requirements. After trialling the modified truck for three months, Dovecote Park opted to update its fleet with the specialist machines.

Also crucial to Dovecote Park’s decision to award the deal to Impact Handling was the company’s local support. With Impact Handling’s Doncaster depot only 20 miles away, Dovecote Park was reassured that should there be any service issues with new machines, technicians from the local Impact Handling branch could be on site quickly.

David Redman, Director at Dovecote Park, says: “We invited a number of companies to tender for this supply and service contract, but without doubt Impact Handling impressed us the most. These are highly specialist trucks – a world apart from traditional pallet trucks – yet Impact Handling was able to meet our requirement perfectly, and has impressed from the start.”

The seven new machines operate in Dovecote Park’s dispatch chiller, and are worked 12 hours a day, seven days a week. The ULMA Inoxtrucks’ 100 per cent stainless steel design is perfect for working in food processing environments as the truck’s hygienic waterproof structure mean they can be easily cleaned with a high pressure hose.

The robust structure of the trucks was also key to Dovecote’s decision to replace its older machines with ULMAs as the trucks will each complete around 400 movements a day.

“We’ve three ULMA flow wrap machines in our fleet so we know the quality of the ULMA products. The new trucks are running fantastically and are exactly what we needed. They are durable, easy to clean and easily accessible – we couldn’t have updated our fleet with better,” adds Redman.

The ride-on trucks feature a suspended platform for greater driving control and electronic steering with speed reduction curves. They are also designed to work in narrow areas, as the safety bars and platform can be easily folded away. The five walk-behind trucks feature an adjustable tiller head drive to adapt to an individual operators’ height, which can also be locked in an upright position to work in narrow aisles. All of the trucks also feature a cold store configuration with internal heater, to avoid condensation forming in the waterproof compartment.

The new trucks join a further seven machines which work in Dovecote Park’s main processing factory, in Pontefract. On-site servicing is provided via Impact Handling’s local Doncaster depot which has a dedicated team of experienced technicians, trained to work on ULMA products.

ULMA trucks are one of a number of specialist brands of materials handling equipment offered by Impact Handling, which complement its position as the sole distributor for Cat® Lift Trucks in the UK and Ireland.
