The Danish SaaS company Impero A/S, that was recently listed on Nasdaq First North Growth Market, has signed its first public customer in Germany. The German utility company Stadtwerke Augsburg will use Impero’s digital platform to optimize and automize tax compliance management.

Moving forward, Impero A/S will be handling risk and compliance in the German public sector, as the SaaS company recently signed a five-year contract with German utility company Stadtwerke Augsburg. This is a major step in the Danish company’s plan to expand its market share and grow further in the DACH (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) region as well as the Northwestern European market.

Sebastian Brand, Commercial Director of Stadtwerke Augsburg Group underlines the importance of the collaboration: “The tax department is increasingly moving towards being a governance function which assures that our internal structures and processes address tax relevant issues, thereby safeguarding our operative units in their daily activities. Impero supports us in systemizing cross-departmental processes and assures constant monitoring, improvement and training of the parties involved in order to live up to our internal and external tax compliance regulations.”

The agreement allows Impero A/S to tap into a new strategic vertical in the German public sector with a large potential, as there are more than 1,400 utility companies in Germany. Chief Executive Officer Rikke Stampe Skov states about the contract: “We help companies deliver on their promises. For many years there has been a market for this in Denmark but certainly also in many other countries where companies see the advantage of collaborating with us to systematize and digitalize their compliance. We are very pleased that Stadtwerke Augsburg has chosen us as their compliance partner and look forward to assisting them and many other customers in the German public sector.”

Global demands to companies are increasing

Impero A/S delivers a software compliance platform that contributes to handling the increasing demands companies face. Stadtwerke Augsburg will be implementing Impero’s platform to optimize and automate tax compliance management as an important tool in the journey of enhancing the culture of trust and transparency within the utility company.

Katharina Herrmann, Head of Tax at Stadtwerke Augsburg, about tax compliance and Impero:

“In my opinion, a good Tax Compliance Management System (TMCS) is essential for meeting the large number of tax obligations. It is important that the TCMS does not just "disappear in the drawer" as a set of rules, but is actually lived. This is where the solution from Impero A/S supports us. Impero helps us in our day-to-day work to ensure that we actually implement and document the controls we have introduced.”

Kaspar Kühl, Head of Sales, Germany about the potential in the market: “The legal and societal demands companies face are on the rise. Companies must comply with increasing regulation and document that they are in fact compliant – both in Denmark and on a global scale. However, most companies’ core business is centered around other areas than compliance management. Our platform eases the work with governance, risk management, and compliance through our intuitive platform which in turn allows our customers to focus on their business while assured they are living up to regulatory demands. Furthermore, and most importantly, our customers can document every step of their compliance path.”

Local partners paving the way to public customers

The contract with Stadtwerke Augsburg has been entered into in collaboration with Impero A/S long-term German partner KPMG Deutschland. Part of Impero’s sales efforts happen through collaborations with the largest, global accounting firms (Big4). The partners see great advantages in the collaboration as their customer offering is diversified by introducing the Impero platform.

“Our unique partnership model is essential to paving the way to the largest international companies because it ensures our ability to offer optimal solutions in a national context. The contract with Stadtwerke Augsburg shows that our partnership with KPMG in the private, German market goes hand-in-hand with expanding our compliance management offering to the public sector, as it is in Denmark,” states Chief Executive Officer Rikke Stampe Skov.
