The investment company Impilo has now been established. The Sweden-based company will focus on the pharmaceutical, medical technology and devices, care services and health-related segments, including preventative care. Impilo is led by five partners with nearly 80 years of experience from investments in the Nordic region. Today the company has SEK 3 bn in commitments from Nordic and international investors.

“To us, it is a matter of credibility,” says Fredrik Strömholm, founder and partner with a long experience from Altor, Goldman Sachs and Nordic Capital. “We are based where we are active and invest in companies with the objective of being a supportive and demanding owner that ensures their successful development.“

“We want to contribute to the emergence of strong companies in this sector and believe that the success of companies we invest in depends on their contribution to a positive development of society based on improved products and services.

They need to help meet the challenges in the growing demand for better treatment and health.”

Impilo has an innovative and flexible structure that enables both majority and minority ownership, and the ability to develop a company without a strict exit deadline.

“This structure promotes long-term growth and value creation, both organic and via acquisitions,” says Sören Mellstig, industrial partner and chairman in Impilo.

Mellstig has prior experience as CEO of Gambro, and chairman in Aleris, Apotek Hjärtat, Ferrosan Medical Devices and Textilia under private equity ownership. Mellstig is today also chairman of Trelleborg, Ellevio and Cellavision.

The Swedish 3rd AP-fund, TryghedsGruppen, and investment funds managed by Goldman Sachs Asset Management are among Impilo’s investors.

Impilo’s partners have extensive experience from investing in and developing successful companies such as Apotek Hjärtat, Ferrosan, Nycomed, Palodex and Ferrosan Medical Devices. Hans-Christian Bödker-Jensen, with prior experience from EQT, IndustriKapital, Altor and a number of private investments with Danish family offices, Jesper Eliasson, who has been with IndustriKapital for seven years and Altor for thirteen years, and Andreas Hiller, with experience from the Boston Consulting Group, 3i and Altor, are also partners and co-founders of Impilo.

“We have known each other over a long period of time and this has been a good basis for expanding the team,” says Strömholm about Impilo that currently has seven employees.

Also joining the Impilo team are Sonja Gerde from the Boston Consulting Group, Fredrik Holmström, most recently at XIO Group in London, and Gustav Lundgren from ABG Sundal Collier. Impilo expects up to four more professionals to join in the coming months.
