WHO: As the foremost African American woman race car driver in the world, Nicole Lyons, a modern day pioneer is living out her childhood dreams by taking a road less traveled in the world of racing. Lyons is fueled by the same horsepower that ignites the cars she races; at only 5’6” her talent as a driver, knowledge of the sport and intensity towards the competition qualifies her as one to watch on the tracks. As a multi-faceted athlete who also builds race car engines, Lyons strives on carving a niche for herself as one of the world’s premier female professional race car drivers. In pursuing her childhood dreams, she has made history, as the first African-American female to race in the coveted classes of NHRA Top Sportsman & Comp as well as ADRL Top Sportsman.
Nicole Lyons is the first African American woman racing in several categories of NHRA drag racing and NASCAR and holds rank as the only woman in the NHRA D2 & D7 Top Sportsman division. The 1,200 horsepower racecar built by herself along with her father, the late Jack Davis, David Beckley Race Cars, and the engineering team of QMP, proves Nicole Lyons is no lightweight.
