That Meet Real Needs of Small Business Owners

No additional cost to small businesses for health and wellness incentive programs

Philadelphia, PA — September 5, 2012Independence Blue Cross (IBC) today announced that together with the Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce, IBC will offer access to affordable, quality insurance coverage for small business owners. IBC’s new Blue Solutions plans include options to meet almost any need and budget and specifically respond to small employers’ request for wellness programs they can offer their employees.

“Anything we can do to help small employers improve their employees’ health will ultimately improve their bottom line,” said Christopher Cashman, IBC executive vice president and president of commercial markets. “Wellness tools and incentive programs have been accessible in the market for a long time, primarily to larger companies. Today, with the Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce, we are pleased to offer progressive solutions for the small businesses in our community and to enhance the health and wellness of their employees through industry-leading products— at no additional cost to employers.”

“IBC and the Central Bucks Chamber have enjoyed a long relationship over many, many years and they are a highly valued member and partner in this community,” said Dr. Vail P. Garvin, FACHE, executive director, Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce. “The Chamber is proud to collaborate with IBC to offer market-leading plans which add greater value to our members’ investment in health care, including no-cost wellness and incentive programs for small businesses. IBC’s unique perspective and deep commitment to our small business community is certainly evident in the product solutions they continue to make available.”

“We’ve been listening to and serving the business community in southeastern Pennsylvania for nearly 75 years,” said Brett Mayfield, IBC vice president of sales. “Small business owners told us they needed innovative solutions to help them reduce their health care costs while improving the health of their workforce. Today, we are responding by refining our existing Blue Solutions products with a value-added incentive program that will encourage employees to become healthier. Moreover, our plans for individual business owners include low monthly premiums and lower out-of-pocket costs for competitive coverage.”

Blue Solutions® and Blue Solutions® Plus benefits plans are specifically designed to help lower overall health care costs for employers with two to 99 employees. The recently enhanced Blue Solutions benefits plan options offer employers, at no added cost, value-added wellness programs such as Healthy LifestylesSM Rewards, an online value-added incentive program which rewards employees for participating in wellness activities to improve their health. Employers may select one of IBC’s cost-effective high deductible benefits plans and maximize their savings by pairing Healthy Lifestyles Rewards with a spending account. By focusing on good health, employees turn healthy behaviors into dollars that their employer deposits in either a Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) or a Health Savings Account (HSA). New customers with 51-99 employees have access to a worksite wellness program, which includes health screenings and onsite seminars. Additionally, individual business owners may select from a total of 21 different individual benefits plan options for themselves and their families.
