Independence Blue Cross executive honored by the Philadelphia Business Journal
Executive Vice President Yvette D. Bright to receive Women of Distinction Award
Philadelphia, PA — November 27, 2012 — At an awards banquet today, the Philadelphia Business Journal honored Yvette D. Bright, executive vice president and chief transformation officer at Independence Blue Cross (IBC), with a 2012 Women of Distinction Award for her outstanding professional achievements.
“On behalf of everyone at Independence Blue Cross, we are delighted that the Philadelphia Business Journal has chosen Yvette as a 2012 Women of Distinction honoree,” said Daniel J. Hilferty, IBC president and CEO. “Yvette’s strong leadership and commitment to her work and her community have long distinguished her at IBC and made her a role model to many of our associates.”
Women of Distinction Award honorees are selected based on three categories: professional accomplishments, community involvement, and awards and milestones. This year, 30 women will accept the Women of Distinction Award at a banquet being held at the Sheraton Hotel in Philadelphia. In addition to receiving the award, the winners were profiled in a special section of the Philadelphia Business Journal’s November 23 issue.
“I’m honored to accept the Women of Distinction Award alongside 29 successful, influential, and passionate professionals who have paved the way for future business women,” said Bright. “I’m grateful that I have the opportunity — both personally and professionally — to support organizations and initiatives that truly benefit the community.”
In 2007, Bright received the Candace Award for Women of Achievement from the South Jersey chapter of the National Coalition of Black Women in recognition for her work in developing best business practices in corporate America, and in helping others succeed in the corporate industry through mentoring and giving back to the community. She was named to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society's Leadership Class of 1998 for her community service and philanthropic contributions.
Bright served several years on the board of Summit Children's Program and on the board of the Philadelphia Children’s Theatre. Currently, she serves on the board of the Walnut Street Theatre.
In her role as IBC’s executive vice president and chief transformation officer, Bright oversees human resources, information services, service operations, portfolio and performance management, and a multi-year initiative to enhance the customer experience and lower operating costs through migration to a new operating platform. Since joining IBC in 1991, Bright has led the company’s growing eBusiness initiatives. In 2005, she was appointed senior vice president for eBusiness and operations and assumed oversight of all operational areas, including claims processing, member services, and enrollment. She was named senior vice president and chief administrative officer in 2009.
