Christopher Cashman honored by Father’s Day Council of Greater Philadelphia

Philadelphia, PA — June 7, 2012 — Christopher Cashman, executive vice president and president of commercial markets for Independence Blue Cross (IBC), has been named Father of the Year by the Father’s Day Council of Greater Philadelphia in recognition of his community and corporate leadership. He, along with three others, will be honored tonight at the Loews Hotel in Philadelphia.

The Father of the Year event is a high profile fundraiser sponsored by the American Diabetes Association (ADA). This is the sixth year that the Greater Philadelphia region will be hosting the event. Nationally, it has raised more than $25 million benefiting the ADA in support of its mission to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.

“On behalf of all the associates of Independence Blue Cross, we’re excited that Chris is receiving this special honor and congratulate him on the remarkable job he has done balancing business, charitable, and family responsibilities, and excelling at all three,” said Daniel J. Hilferty, IBC president and CEO. “What’s more, Chris has worked tirelessly to support the American Diabetes Association, including actively participating in Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes each October. Through his leadership and enthusiasm, he has encouraged hundreds of our associates to walk and raise money for this very worthy cause.”

Joining Cashman in receiving the award this year are Harold T. Epps, president and CEO of PRWT Services; William P. Hankowsky, chairman, president, and CEO of Liberty Property Trust; and William R. Sasso, chairman of Stradley, Ronon, Stevens and Young, LLP.

“We are delighted to honor Chris this year and especially excited to announce that he is among the top five national ADA Father of the Year Honoree fundraisers," said ADA executive director Rena Cozart. "Chris has been an avid supporter of our mission for many years, and this year his dedication to raising awareness and contributions to our cause has been second to none. We are fortunate to have such a committed and energetic advocate."

“It is an honor to be recognized with others whom I deeply admire for their dedication and commitment to the important life-saving work being done by the ADA to stop the deadly consequences of diabetes,” said Cashman. “I congratulate my fellow honorees and thank the Father’s Day Council of Greater Philadelphia for this award.”

In his role as president of IBC commercial markets, Cashman has overall profit and loss responsibility for IBC’s commercial health markets, including marketing and sales, and subsidiary and ancillary businesses. In addition, he oversees corporate communications.

Cashman serves on a number of boards including the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania, The Police Athletic League, YMCA Philadelphia and Vicinity, Zoological Society of Philadelphia, The World Affairs Council of Philadelphia, Temple University School of Medicine for Minority Health & Health Disparities, and the Mayor’s Scholarship Committee.
