Industrifonden invests in Actiwave
Industrifonden is investing SEK 13 million in Actiwave, which is developing a technology that improves audio quality in mobile phones, tablets and other devices. The current owner, SEB Venture Capital, is also participating in the new issue. The money will be used for a market launch.
Actiwave, a spin-off from research at Linköping University, has developed a new technology to improve sound quality in small speakers with limited space and battery capacity, e.g., in mobile phones, laptops, tablets and televisions.
Actiwave combines expertise in acoustics and human hearing with pioneering digital audio research. The company is now offering a technology that can easily be integrated in its customers’ various platforms.
“Actiwave has a technology that produces rich sound from small speakers,” says Hadar Cars, Investment Manager at Industrifonden. “We are confident that the company has great opportunities to succeed in the market, considering that demand for better sound in small devices is huge and growing.”
The company was founded in 2007 and its technology is well-proven through the Opalum line of ultrathin speakers. The next step is now to license out the technology to manufacturers of products with small speakers and low power consumption requirements. The company has already attracted great interest from leading manufacturers of mobile phones and consumer electronics.
“We are pleased to have added a major, experienced investor such as Industrifonden,” says Pär Gunnars Risberg, CEO and Founder of Actiwave. “With their capital and competence, we will be able to shift our expansion into higher gear.”
This is Industrifonden’s second new investment of the financial year July 1, 2012-June 30, 2013.
