Instagrid, the provider of high-performance portable battery systems, is thrilled to announce its selection in the World Economic Forum Technology Pioneers 2023 cohort. This prestigious recognition highlights Instagrid's groundbreaking efforts to transform access to off-grid electricity and accelerate the global transition towards clean energy.

Stuttgart, Germany, 21 June 2023 – Each year, the World Economic Forum welcomes 100 early-stage companies into a global community of visionary enterprises that offer new solutions to address present challenges and foster future resilience. Instagrid joins this distinguished group of innovators through its pioneering work in developing advanced clean portable battery systems to replace fossil fuel-driven combustion generators on a global scale.

Two billion mobile workers worldwide rely on gasoline or diesel generators to access off-grid electricity in sectors like construction, film, events and rescue services. This inefficient and decades-old technology is a source of considerable greenhouse gases, exhaust fumes and excessive noise. Still, these small engines are barely regulated and their negative impact goes largely unmonitored.

Instagrid has proven that there is a more sustainable alternative with their high-performance batteries, which have zero noise or exhaust emissions and deliver up to 97% lower greenhouse gas emissions than combustion generators, along with 32% lower lifetime costs. Instagrid’s innovation is based on a unique a micro-inverter technology that offers up to five times higher peak output power in half the size and weight of existing solutions.

Introduced in 2021, Instagrid’s award-winning products have already demonstrated their success in the market with 22,000 professional users across Europe in 2022. The company is building on this distinctive technology to create large-scale mobile battery systems that will replace polluting diesel generators up to the megawatt scale. Their aim is to build the infrastructure to bypass inflexible and expensive power grids in many regions, just like mobile phones leapfrogged telephone land lines decades ago.

As a Technology Pioneer, instagrid will engage with the World Economic Forum’s work to help define the global agenda on key issues. Instagrid’s Co-Founder and Co-CEO Sebastian Berning will be invited to participate in Forum’s activities, events, and discussions throughout the year.

“We’re honored and proud to be recognized as a Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum. As we’re addressing a global and pressing challenge that exists in every country of the world, we depend on a strong network of global partners to expedite our business,” said Berning. “Being part of the Technology Pioneers community grants us opportunities to collaborate with leading businesses and cities, governments, and NGOs who share our vision, allowing us to collectively accelerate the global transition to clean energy.”
