Instalco wins new contract at the research institute ESS

The Instalco companies, Rörläggaren and Bi-Vent have won a contract for ventilation and pipe installation work at the campus area of the ESS research institute. The work, which has been contracted by Skanska, will begin in 2019 and the total order value is SEK 40 million.

Once it is operational in 2023, European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, will have the world’s most powerful neutron source. It will create opportunities for research in such areas as the environment, health, pharmaceuticals and energy by enabling researchers to study various types of materials and their structures in ways that have not been possible in the past.

Construction of the ESS Campus began during fall 2018. It will consist of three buildings with offices, laboratories and workshops. The total area will be approximately 18,000 square metres, with 450 workplaces. Rörläggaren and Bi-Vent will be installing heating, plumbing and ventilation systems at the buildings.

Rörläggaren and ORAB have already been involved in extensive installation assignments at the ESS site.

“ESS is a very prestigious project. The campus area will provide a venue for interaction between researchers from all over the world in a variety of research areas,” says Tomas Engström, CEO for Bi-Vent in Helsingborg.

ESS intends to seek BREEAM environment certification at the highest possible level, “Outstanding”. Rörläggaren’s and Bi-Vent’s assignment will start in 2019 and the work will be completed in 2021.
