Integra’s Fiber Footprint Helps Oregon Health Network Support

Patients and Providers throughout Oregon

PORTLAND, Ore., Sept. XX, 2012 – Integra Telecom Inc., a provider of fiber-based, business-grade networking, communications and technology solutions, has partnered with Oregon Health Network (OHN) to provide communications services and infrastructure for the first statewide integrated, coordinated and patient-centered healthcare network in Oregon. By leveraging Integra’s extensive fiber networks, OHN members across the state have access to cost-effective, reliable voice services, high-bandwidth Ethernet and high-speed Internet.

As part of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Rural Health Care Pilot Program (RHCPP), OHN was the fifth-largest recipient of funds to build a scalable, manageable and robust broadband infrastructure to connect hospitals, clinics and community colleges that deliver healthcare education throughout Oregon. OHN partnered with advanced network service providers such as Integra, which were selected via a rigorous RFP process to build out a statewide network. Integra was chosen as a key provider based on the ability to meet OHN’s strict service level agreements and its commitment to support OHN’s overall goals to:

  • Improve patient experience and outcomes;
  • Improve population health; and
  • Reduce costs.

“OHN is committed to ensuring Oregonians have access to quality healthcare, regardless of their location, with network infrastructure and communications services that support healthcare delivery in a digital world,” said Kim Lamb, executive director of Oregon Health Network. “We’re pleased to have partners like Integra Telecom who understand the unique technology needs of healthcare providers and are willing to work closely with us in developing solutions to better serve our members and the communities they serve.”

From technical support to public policy, OHN strives to enable long-term stability and growth for Oregon’s healthcare system through improved healthcare coordination and access, education and workforce development. OHN’s network was designed to enable the most cost-effective, scalable and efficient connectivity options to more than 172 clinics, 39 hospitals and 14 community colleges throughout Oregon. As one of the top two FCC subsidized providers for OHN, Integra’s on-net locations, fiber density and bandwidth-intensive networking solutions support the vital, state-of-the-art health IT needs of OHN members such as: imaging, video conferencing, backup storage and recovery, and access to electronic healthcare records and mobile healthcare applications. Integra understands the unique business demands of the healthcare industry and was prepared to address the access and service quality needs for OHN’s members.

“The model OHN has chosen to use—a cloud-based healthcare network that enables fast, reliable connectivity throughout the state—is the future of healthcare communications,” said Joe Harding, senior vice president of marketing at Integra Telecom. “Integra’s collaboration with OHN demonstrates our commitment to both the healthcare industry and the state of Oregon. Integra is proud to partner with OHN to reduce healthcare costs, eliminate network duplication and positively impact Oregon’s economy.”
