Integrum collaboration project awarded research grant forneuromuscular control of robotic leg prostheses

Integrum today announced that a collaboration project the company is developing together with Chalmers University of Technology and Sahlgrenska University Hospital has been awarded a research grant of SEK 4.6 million by Swelife

The collaboration project focuses on the development and first clinical application of a novel implant system that allows for neuromuscular control and sensory feedback of leg prostheses for individuals with a lower limb amputation.

The project utilizes an innovative technology solution from Integrum that enables the prosthesis to be directly attached to the bone through a process known as osseointegration. This is combined with implanted electrodes that facilitate prosthetic control through bioelectric signals coming directly from muscles and nerves in the residual limb.

Rutger Barrdahl, CEO at Integrum, says, “We are very happy that Swelife’s experts see the same innovation potential in this project as we do. We are grateful for the research grant and very grateful to our collaboration partners, Chalmers and Sahlgrenska, from whom we are learning so much. All of these things will help us to bring an improved quality of life to leg amputees faster.”
