Intelligence Squared U.S. Debates "Obesity Is the Government’s Business" at NYU's Skirball Center February 7th
New York, NY – Jan. 18, 2012 – On February 7, Intelligence Squared U.S. (IQ2US) will take on one of America’s biggest problems when they host the debate: “Obesity Is the Government’s Business.” Obesity costs our health care system nearly $150 billion a year and is a major risk factor for expensive, chronic conditions like heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. Should the government intervene, or is this a matter of individual rights and personal responsibility?
In support of the motion are Dr. Pamela Peeke, WebMD’s Chief Lifestyle Expert, and TBD. Against the motion are Paul Campos, Author, The Obesity Myth & Law Professor at the University of Colorado, and John Stossel, of Fox Business News.
Moderated by ABC News correspondent John Donvan, Intelligence Squared U.S.'s spring season will be presented in partnership with Slate with live webcasts on Fora.tv. Debates will air on more than 220 NPR stations nationwide and be televised in the New York area on PBS Channel Thirteen, WNET, WLIW, and NJTV.
