New toolkit from Intentia takes companies through all aspects of the EURO conversion dilemma Intentia is today announcing the availability of a unique toolkit including software, methods and guidelines that will help customers manage all aspects of the conversion from local to EURO currency. According to many analysts, the EURO conversion will cause at least as big problems as the millenium conversion, if not bigger. "The Y2K problem is basically just the technical challenge for the IS department of extending date fields to make room for a four digit year field. Intentia's enterprise application Movex has been Y2K ready for years. The EURO conversion is a much larger issue, however, spanning multiple departments within a company, from IT to marketing and sales" says Johan Berg, Managing Director, Intentia R&D. st The largest problems that will arise before January 1 2002, when the EURO becomes the local currency in 11 European countries, are business related. When the technical problems of handling another currency internally has been dealt with, companies are left with the huge task of reworking their whole strategy regarding prices, container quantity and other related areas. Says Lars Bremer, vice president, Intentia R&D, "a perfect example is when a company has priced all its products at 9,95 or 99 or 999. The converted prices in EURO will at today's rate (SEK -> EURO) convert into 1,19 and 11,86 and 19,64. So either the prices will have to be adjusted, which might be a problem if margins are small, or quantities will have to decrease or increase."
