The winner of Yorkshire Copper Tube’s latest competition has lots of celebrations in the pipeline this year and a £300 hotel voucher prize is the icing on the cake. Christopher Watson, who is the second generation to run J Watson Plumbing in Blackburn, has been using Yorkshire’s copper tubing since he started his career 34 years ago. His father, Joseph, started the business in 1950, which coincides with Yorkshire’s milestone anniversary of copper tube manufacturing in Kirkby. A landmark birthday is also on the cards and Christopher, who is married with three children, will use the vouchers for a weekend away when he turns 50. He said: “Initially, I heard about the competition in a national plumbing trade magazine and then I saw it again in Tube Talk, which is Yorkshire Copper Tube’s newsletter, and decided to enter. “I would have been happy to win one of the Proud to be British scarves so I was over the moon to find that I had scooped the first prize. “I am a firm believer in using British made products and my father was using Yorkshire Copper Tube when I was still at school. “The products are so great that I have carried on the tradition since then. “My 23 year old son, Daniel, is also a plumber and I am sure he will continue to use them when I hand over the reins to the third generation of Watson plumbers.” Jack Wallace, UK Sales Director at Yorkshire Copper Tube, said: “We had thousands of entries for this promotion and couldn’t believe it when we found out that the winner was running a business that shared our special date this year. “It is fantastic to hear success stories like this and all at Yorkshire Copper Tube would like to wish Christopher a very happy birthday and hope he enjoys his well deserved break.” Christopher can choose from over 40 Macdonald Hotels located across the UK. From contemporary city hotels to sophisticated country manor houses, Macdonald Hotels have a unique style, with first class accommodation, fine food and great service. The “Win a UK break or one of 300 scarves” promotion was launched in September 2009 and received thousands of entries before the closing date on November 30th. It is the fourth competition that the company has run in recent years, which have had more than 55,000 entries overall. Yorkshire Copper Tube is a Division of KME Yorkshire Ltd, part of the KME Group, Europe’s largest producer of copper and copper alloy products. To find out more about Yorkshire visit: www.yct.com.
