LYNNE HAS GONE TIGERTASTIC!

Lynne Gorrie has gone all tigertastic after a hair make-over in aid of her favourite fundraising organisation 21st Century Tiger. The Blackpool Zoo regular decided to have her hair styled just like her favourite resident Zambar the Amur tiger after learning of the plight of his critically endangered relatives across the world at a members’ only presentation at the zoo. After weeks of fundraising in the area Lynne, who is 54, went to Athena Hair on Waterloo Rd in Blackpool to have her long hair shaved off and tiger stripes dyed onto her head. Animal mad Rachel Owen from Standish in Wigan is officially a bookworm!The seven year old has been crowned the first winner of the Blackpool Zoo bookworm competition, which was launched on World Book Day in March. On a recent visit to the zoo Rachel, who attends Shevington Vale Primary School, spotted the competition and instantly knew the answer to the question: Name the tiger in Rudyard Kipling’s “Jungle Book”. BLACKPOOL ZOO TO ADD BOOKWORMS TO ITS COLLECTION

Blackpool Zoo is on the hunt for a new species of animal to add to its collection – a group of intrepid bookworms!The award winning attraction launched a new competition on World Book Day that will offer its younger fans the chance to win animal related books every month. In addition, at the end of this year the zoo will choose from all the correct entries and present an overall winner with a collection of books and an annual membership for 2011. BLACKPOOL ZOO OFFERS SUNSHINE ON A RAINY DAY

Blackpool Zoo is offering a ray of sunshine to those that are fed up with the horrible weather, by letting children in for free on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th February.To take advantage of this one weekend only promotion visitors need to print off the special voucher on www.blackpoolzoo.org.uk. TIGER ROARS IN FOR CHINESE NEW YEAR

Watch out……Watch out…..there’s a tiger about!Half term will see Blackpool Zoo mark the Chinese Year of the Tiger with the arrival of Zambar, a male Amur Tiger. Born at Marwell Zoo in March 2004, he will arrive in early February to take up residence in his own paddock and will be joined by a female later in the year. From Sunday 14th through to Saturday 20th February the zoo will celebrating Zambar’s arrival by hosting a tiger themed week with talks, scheduled feeds, a tiger trail, a name that tiger competition and a 21st Century Tiger collage workshop.
