Wedding Flower Trends: Interflora Vera Wang Autumn 2014
The Vera Wang Wedding Collection by Interflora has over 350 accredited florists in the UK and Ireland, and so is perfectly positioned to provide insight into the key wedding flower trends emerging this season. Interflora Vera Wang florists from across the country give us their predictions of emerging wedding trends for Autumn 2014.
This season is tipped to be one of bold autumnal colours, with naturalistic, woodland-inspired arrangements already marked as favourites, and floral arrangements and bouquets moving to the forefront of the big day. The Vera Wang Wedding Collection by Interflora is tailor-made to deliver these on-trend looks.
At a time of harvest and autumnal foliage, bouquets will take on rich earthy colours with reds and deep plums being the most striking.
Claire Woolley, from Woolley’s Florist in Blackwood in South Wales: “Brides are certainly embracing the Autumn with some even looking at how to incorporate twigs and leaves into their bouquets rather than traditional foliage. The warm colours reflected in the flower choices are reminiscent of bonfires and the fading summer weather.”
The Interflora Vera Wang Wedding Collection interpretation: Emulating the season’s earthy colours are the Purple Calla Lily Bridal Bouquet and Red Rose Bridesmaid Bouquet.
Not all brides will want to make bold autumnal colour choices and many will opt to for a pure white or ivory bouquet which lends itself to most colour schemes.
Johanna Vickers from Chesterman Florist in Surrey, suggests that there is a middle ground: "Brides love the autumnal shades but often feel that the bright and burnt oranges often associated with Autumn, might overwhelm their overall theme.
“Peach and apricot-coloured blooms are a fabulous middle ground for brides who wish to acknowledge the autumnal colours without committing themselves to the more vibrant shades; however, it is still a decided move away from the traditional whites and ivories and into the realm of colour.”
The Interflora Vera Wang Wedding Collection interpretation: A subtle reflection of the Autumn’s orange pallet the Cream Rose Bridal Bouquet; and the Rose and Lisianthus Bridal Bouquet with delicate hints of peach.
Louise Leather at Rona the Flower Shop in Widnes, Cheshire, sees the Summer’s country garden theme evolving into natural, earthy, autumnal flower choices: “Roses and orchids remain popular blooms with brides year-round. However there is certainly a shift towards less domesticated blooms such as lisianthus, freesias and bouvardia.
“The escape to more natural, earthy choices can often be seen echoed in the location choice, with many opting for church and country weddings where nature truly surrounds the venue.”
The Interflora Vera Wang Wedding Collection interpretation: A structured approach to a natural theme, the Cream Rose and Freesia Bridesmaid Bouquet; and the White Calla Lily Buttonhole trimmed with delicate lily of the valley.
Our florists all agree that we can expect to see more flowers as the key decoration, creating impact through floral arrangements in churches, reception venues and coming down the aisles, with brides prepared to spend more to bring flowers back to centre stage for their big day.
Natalie Shaw, from Natalie’s Florist in Newcastle in Staffordshire, has already noticed the explosion of blooms at wedding venues: “We’re finding brides spending more to dress venues, covering almost every available inch in flowers.
“From traditional church weddings to modern hotel venues, brides want flowers everywhere they can find space for them. It’s a celebration of nature and natural elements.”
The Interflora Vera Wang Wedding Collection interpretation: dress the venue with a Rose and Lily Arrangement and the Rose and Orchid Centre Piece; just two arrangements available in the collection.
