Wedding Trends: Interflora Vera Wang Summer 2014
The Vera Wang Wedding Collection by Interflora has over 400 accredited florists in the UK and Ireland, perfectly positioned to provide insight into the key wedding flower trends emerging this season. Interflora Vera Wang florists from across the country give us their interpretations of the wedding trends for Summer 2014.
This season is tipped to be one of pale and pastel colours, with vintage designs and country garden inspired arrangements already marked as favourites. The Vera Wang Wedding Collection by Interflora is tailor-made to deliver these on-trend looks.
A soft and creamy colour palette, popular in Spring, will stay with us through the Summer, enhanced by large open flowers which have that quintessential country garden feel.
Jo Hornsby of The Daisy Chain in Shepperton, Surrey: “Bouquets are simple and sophisticated, structured yet soft, designed with large open flowers in full bloom, fragrant and gorgeously romantic. Soft whites and creams are definitely the dominant colours of the season.”
The Interflora Vera Wang Wedding Collection interpretation: Emulating the season’s soft whites and creams are the Cream Rose Bridal Bouquet; the Cream Rose Flower Girl Pomander; and the Rose and Lisianthus Bridal Bouquet with delicate hints of peach.
The other ‘it’ colour on many bride’s wish list is purple, ranging from soft lavender and lilac right through to deep, rich violet and indigo.
Claire Woolley, from Woolley’s Florist in Blackwood in South Wales, has already noticed this key bridal colour theme emerging: “We’re finding brides opting for shades of purple, to complement the paler shades of cream. Darker shades such as the purple Vanda orchid are a firm favourite this season.”
The Interflora Vera Wang Wedding Collection interpretation: pretty in purple are the Rose and Freesia Bridal Bouquet; the Purple Vanda Orchid Bridal Bouquet; and the Mixed Rose and Freesia Bridesmaid Bouquet accentuated with light pink tones.
The style of the bridal bouquet will be one of two extremes this season, with some brides opting for the ‘just-picked’ country garden feel while many will choose a more structured, modern design.
Julie Bennett from Floral Events in Malvern, Worcestershire, says that the experience of a good florist is invaluable. "Brides are looking to florists for advice on the structure of their bouquet, what some don’t realise is that the shape of the bouquet can ultimately influence the perception of the brides ‘shape’.”
Julie also notes that dusky pink that was ‘big’ this Spring, promises to stay around well into Summer.
The Interflora Vera Wang Wedding Collection interpretation: Blushing pink from dawn to dusky are the Pink Calla Lily Buttonhole; the Mixed Rose Bridal Bouquet; and the Pink Calla Lily Bouquet with soft graduating tones.
Jen Hollingworth at Flowers by Suzanne in North Hykeham, Lincoln sees pure white blooms being carried down the aisles this Summer: “The timeless combination of white and green is still preferred by many brides, who want a classic, clean feel to their bouquet. Another way they can achieve this is by grouping a single flower variety, for example ‘Sweet Avalanche’ roses, creating impact through simplicity.”
Using a single variety for impact is also going to be echoed in decoration, with brides choosing to dress their wedding venues with a single, variety to create grand table arrangements and decorations.
Timeless white blooms can also create the perfect juxtaposition for on-trend metallic styles this season, offsetting the brighter metallic colours as well as the subdued pastel shades.
The Interflora Vera Wang Wedding Collection interpretation: Keeping it pure and simple are the White Calla Lily Bridal Bouquet; the Cream Rose and Freesia Bridesmaid Bouquet; and the White Calla Lily Buttonhole trimmed with delicate lily of the valley.
Our florists all agree that we can expect to see more flowers in churches, reception venues and coming down the aisles, with brides prepared to spend more to bring flowers back to centre stage for their big day.
