Launch of IDMC/NRC 2017 Africa Report on Internal Displacement

WHAT: The Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) of the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is launching the new 2017 Africa Report on Internal Displacement which will present the latest data and trends of internal displacement across Africa. The report will provide an update on regional internal displacement trends and patterns, specific country assessments, as well as analysis about the underlying drivers of the risk of new and protracted displacement and its immediate and longer-term impacts.  

WHEN: Wednesday 6 December 2017, 00:01 CET

WHERE: As of 6 December the report will be available on the IDMC website: www.internal-displacement.org. A media pack including infographics and photos will also be provided to journalists. 

WHY: With 2.6 million new displacements related to conflict, in 2016, Sub-Saharan Africa was the region most affected in the world. Seven out of ten countries with the highest conflict related new displacement by mid-2017 were in Africa, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo is the country with the highest figure in the world. The report calls for a new approach to displacement that addresses its causes and implications, as well as its more immediate humanitarian consequences.
